New Mahindra Scorpio Facelift: Variants explained

Mahindra has launched the much-awaited updated Scorpio in India. The popular SUV gets a long list of cosmetic and mechanical changes. The new 2018 Scorpio is now available in six variants and here is a detailed list of the features each variant has to offer.

S3 variant

 Price – Rs. 9.97 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)

The base S3 variant of the Scorpio does not get the engine update. It remains powered by the 2.5-litre turbocharged, direct injection, common rail diesel engine that develops a maximum power of 75 Bhp – 200 Nm. The engine is mated to a five-speed manual transmission. The engine features an immobiliser and Micro Hybrid Technology (start/stop system) too.

The S3 variant rides on 215/75 15-inch radial tubeless tyres wrapped around in silver steel rims. The front and rear bumper and the side cladding are unpainted, which means they are black. The ORVMs and the door handles are also unpainted.
There is AC and heating as standard and seats are full vinyl and Mahindra gives an option of either 7 or 9 seats with this variant. The base variant also gets hydraulic power steering with tilt adjustment.
All the variants get ventilated front disc brakes and drum tyre rear brakes as standard.

S5 variant

Price – Rs. 11.62 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)

The S5 variant gets the 2.2-litre mHawk engine but the tuning remains same as the previous model. The engine produces a maximum of 120 Bhp – 280 Nm. The transmission is a 5-speed manual.
The S5 variant offers thicker tyres with 235/65 profile and 17-inch size. The rims are now painted in black and get caps. The front and rear bumpers are painted in body colour in the S5 variant. On the inside, the car gets full fabric seats, one-touch lane change indicator, follow-me-home headlamps, bigger size bottle holder and cup holder. There is also an extra 12V charging socket for the rear passengers.
The S5 variant also gets dual front airbags, ABS, and Panic Braking indication. Seatbelt reminder and auto-door lock while driving is also standard.

S7 variant

Price: 120 Bhp – Rs. 12.69 lakh, 140 Bhp – Rs.12.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)
The S7 variant of the new Scorpio has two states of engine tuning. The S7 variant is powered the same 2.2-litre mHawk engine that churns out a maximum of 120 Bhp – 280 Nm. There is also a higher powered 140 Bhp – 320 Nm tuning. The 120 Bhp variant gets the 5-speed manual transmission while the 140 Bhp variant gets the all-new six-speed manual transmission. However, the feature list remains same.
The S7 variant gets body coloured side-cladding, ORVMs and door handles. Mahindra has made the variant sportier by adding a roof-mounted rear spoiler and silver coloured skid plates. The number plate applique also gets a silver finish for a premium look. This variant upward, Mahindra provides LED high mount stop lamp and projector headlamps.
On the inside, the Scorpio gets armrests for the front passengers, electrically adjustable ORVMs, power window switches located on the door trims, speakers and tweeters with 2-DIN audio system, rear wash wiper with rear defogger, puddle lamps and remote central locking. It also gets height adjustable driver seat. Mahindra also offers lead-me-to-vehicle lamps alongside follow-me-home headlamps with this variant and the footsteps have been painted in black. It also gets parking sensors and voice command.
Mahindra offers latest generation braking system with the 140 Bhp variant of the S7.

S11 variant

Price: 2WD – Rs. 14.79 lakh, 4WD – Rs. 16.01 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)

The top-of-the-line variant is only available with the 140 Bhp engine tuning. It gets a lot more features and is the only variant that offers optional 4WD system. The tyre and the wheel size remain same in the S11 variant but it now gets alloy wheels. The rear number plate applique gets chrome insert for even more premium feel.
The ORVMs gets integrated turn indicators. Also, the windows are anti-pinch and one-touch up. The steering wheel gets the control for cruise control and infotainment control for ease of driving.
The top variant gets automatic climate control system, faux leather seats and leather wrap around the gear lever and the steering wheel. This variant offers 7 side facing, 7 captain seat front facing and 8 front facing seating options. The car gets bending headlamps for better lumination while taking turns at night.
The SUV also gets 6-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth, CD, DVD, USB and Aux. It also has built-in navigation. Mahindra offers a multi-information display with the top variant that shows average fuel economy, distance to empty, service reminder and more. Also, it gets the rear parking camera. The infotainment system also gets Tyretronics that shows the real-time tyre pressure. Speed alert, gear shift indicator and rain and light sensors are also standard with the variant.
