Every car fanatic will know that Mercedes-AMG is ahead of BMW with the
introduction of their GT Series and Project One. With all these changes,
BMW is planning to them head on and in near future they will be at par
with Mercedes-AMG. Bavarian based company is planning to bring supercar
to compete against the likes of aforementioned model from Mercedes. The
thing that stands between the halo high performance supercar and BMW is
the approval of their Vice President Dirk Hacker’s approval. He spoke with the British publication Autocar on this subject.
He said in an interview to the publication that they would like to have a standalone car and they could definitely have it. However, he added that there is no requirement from the market for such vehicle. As a company, they are focused on future mobility rather than focusing on building hypercar or digitization. If the company do come to the decision to build a super sportscar they can easily do it. If the project is given green light, then BMW could be bringing an electrified version to rival the Mercedes-AMG Project One.
The company’s presence at Formula E will also help them in the lead development of the car. Dirk Hacker sad that Formula E could be interesting and BMW M cars have its root in racing. It would be challenge as more OEM’s will be involved. Input from the engineering department will bring more opportunity for the development. Only time will tell how things pans out from BMW.
